For those who love hiking we can suggest some routes through the mountains that will reveal another magnificent aspect of the island of Paros.
Byzantine Path (Lefkes – Prodromos)
The path starts from the center of the village of Lefkes in the southern part. We cross the mountain Rachi 7-8km to the southeast where the “Brovalma” is, the peak of the mountain Kapsalo. From there it is downhill towards the village of Prodromos. The walk takes 1, 5 hour and it is better to do it early in the morning or in the afternoon when the sun is not very strong. You can also go from Prodromos to Lefkes.
Marpissa to Lefkes
On the west of the village of Marpissa and at the first crossing that leads towards the monastery of Aghiou Georghiou, we turn to the right. A dirt road leads us to Lefkes through the mountains. The first stop is in “Afouklaki”, a wonderful small green valley with natural water springs. At its beginning are two united small churches with a beautiful garden where we can rest and enjoy nature.
After about 20km. of walking up and down hills we reach the church of Aghia Kiriaki at the top of Lefkes village. The view is breathtaking. After we reach the windmills, we start downhill towards the village of Lefkes. This hiking route is strictly for experienced in walkers, because of the distance and the level of difficulty and effort that is needed. This trip can be done also starting from Lefkes heading at Marpissa, or by using a jeep or motocross bikes. |
