The island of MYKONOS is one of the most famous tourist spots in the Eastern Mediterranean and definitely the most cosmopolitan and sophisticated amongst the Cyclades. Mykonos lies almost in the central of Aegean Sea, in 87 square kilometers in area and it coast is up to 80 kilometers long.  Is situated very close to the well known open archaeological museum of the world, that is Delos.  Is also surrounded by few neighborhooding islands as  Rhenia, Tinos, Paros and Naxos islands.
Mykonos is situated 94 nautical miles from Piraeus and even less from the port of Rafina.  There are daily and frequent connections.  The duration of the travel is about 5 hours by normal boat, while from Rafina port the duration of the trip is almost 4 hours.  By speed boats thought the duration of the trip is cut down to the half.
During the summer period there is numerous and frequent flight schedules, referring either to charter flights or domestic flights like the ones to Santorini, Rhodes and Heraklion (Crete).

On the western coast, inside a large bay lies the "Chora", the main town and the port of MYKONOS. Chora is a very beautiful old island town. In the past centuries MYKONOS had its own merchant fleet, which explained the islands wealth of that period. Inside the town there are still some patrician houses of the captains and business men. Astonishingly, it still maintains a balance between tourism-related development, such as hotels, restaurant and shops and the preservation of its very picturesque features and traditional look, like few other towns.

The cube-shaped whitewashed houses glow in the sunlight, scattered wisely and orderly in the countless labyrinthine alleys and cobbled streets with balconies full of flowers. In this streets, most important of which is Matoyianni, one can buy clothes, gold and silver jewellery and works of art designed by the most celebrated designers and artists. Almost every famous fashion brand displays here. The newest trends in fashion and style can be found here; in the shops and on the "catwalk" of the small streets.

"Small Venice" ("Mikri Venetia"), one of the most picturesque corners of the Mediterranean, located the west of the Castle. It is very famous for its lovely fish taverns the most impressive sunsets.
There are a number of small museums in Chora, various art exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts and, during the summer, an outdoor cinema.

Ano Mera is a tranquil village in the midst of farms, known for its excellent taverns. Tourists may also visit the two monasteries in the area, "Tourliani" and "Paleokastro".

The island's greatest attractions during the summer time are the many beautiful beaches and the clean blue-green sea. On MYKONOS there is something for everyone: easily accessible by public transportation or "far from the madding crowd"; family style beaches or those frequented mainly by wind-surfers, or of nudists. All categories of seaside accommodation, from campground to luxury villas, are available; plus one may enjoy a great variety of water-sports and many beaches bars and restaurants.

Most of the beaches are on the south side of the island. Such as the strongly frequented Platy Gialos, Psarou, Ornos, Paranga "Paradise" (Kalamopodi), "Super Paradise" (Blintri), Elia, Kalafati, Kalo Livadi, and Lia. On Mykonos western coast there are Agios Stefanos, Houlakia, Megali-Ammos and Agios Yannis.

One day to explore Delos is a must before returning home. This ancient ruined city dedicated to Apolo, was also a major center it the Mediterranean in ancient and roman times.
