Paros is the 4TH biggest island in the Cyclades, is 186, 50 m2 and its coast is up to 120km long, with a road system in relatively good condition.

Paros is situated in the center of the Cycladic complex, 92 nautical miles from Piraeus, 2, 5 - 4, 5 hours trip with today’s means of transportation. The boat connections from Paros to the mainland and the frequency of the boat schedules varies according to the season, nevertheless there are connections to the mainland the whole year, something that other Cycladic islands don’t have. During the summer season from April to September boats and speed boats have frequent schedules to Piraeus and to port of Rafina near Athens. The trip to Rafina, the port closest to the airport, takes about 3 hours on speed boat. The fact that Paros is in the center of Cyclades has the advantage of its being connected with a lot of the neighbouring islands, especially during the summer.

Paros has two main ports. Parikia port, located in the capital of Paros, is the biggest and is where commercial boats arrive from all destinations. The second biggest port where mostly excursion boats, yachts and fishing boats dock, is situated north of Parikia in the village of Naousa. Apart from these two ports there are also a lot of other smaller, natural ports around the island like Piso Livadi, Ambelas and Aliki.

Of course there are a lot of other small coasts, ports and lovely beaches around the island. Some better known beaches are Marchelo and Krios in Parikia, Colymbithres and monastery in Naousa, Ambelas and Molos in the area of Marmara, Piso Livadi and Logaras in the area of Piso Livadi, Golden Beach, Farrangas and Tserdakia which lately become popular with tourists and a lot of other non organized beaches.

Paros also has mountains in the center of the island. The highest peak is Aghiee Pantes at 771 meters. The mountain sides are mild and end in fertile valleys.

The ground below the mountains is equally rich with the famous white Parian marble whose clarity has made it famous through the centuries and has helped the financial and cultural development of Paros from the ancient times till today. A lot of the most well known sculptures are made from Parian marble, like Hermes of Praxitelous, Aphrodite of Milos and others.

Paros is one of the most fertile islands of the Cyclades. Its land produces potatoes, cereals, oil, vegetables, fruit and the well known Parian wine. From ancient times Parian have been farmers, wine producers, fishermen and now that the Cycladic islands have become a tourist destination, they have expanded into tourism an area which is slowly becoming their main occupation.

The population of the island numbers 10.000 residents, but during the summer months this number triples as a result of all the visitors and tourists.
Paros, together with Antiparos, forms a special province with Parikia as the capital. Before the communities were united in one, there were 8 communities, 7 in Paros and 1 in Antiparos. Today the communities are only districts, with Paros central municipality having all the responsibility for decision making.
